Welcome to a place where your body can tell its story.
double agent for health. renegade path finder. pioneer portal seeker. maverick bridger. unity ambassador. mystic innovatress.
I am a writer. I love words and recognize their power. When you come to see me for physical therapy, you are living within my vision for healing and my words below express that vision. Feel free to read these declarations and see how they feel in your body!
ruthless truth miner, she's a bone bender, cellular conductor, blood irrigator, she's been working with the body, deep well of energy
radical principles alive in my treatment room:
trust your experience
healing is not linear and you will still move forward
your body is an intelligent system designed to return to function
go slow to go fast
small changes are huge
injuries can be opportunities
your body never forgets its history
all issues are layered and multifaceted
everything in the body is connected, and thank goodness
no one can say how much you can regain and most of the time it’s more than they can imagine
you have existing potential to improve, whether or not the potential is easily predictable or a mystery
you are in this room whole, no matter how many layers of muck cover your light
language is a healer, use its power for the good
your healing gives a gift back to you AND to me
there is no normal, but there is a new normal for you
finding yourself back in your body here helps you practice connecting to your body in the world outside
if there was a way into dysfunction, there is a way out
people do return from all kinds of situations to wholeness
you have the most healing potential when you feel safe and seen
your most lasting progress is holistic, multi-layered, slow and miraculous
spending more time in your physical body daily gives you access to better health
breaks in therapy allow integration so the changes sink all the way into your bones
regaining a regulated nervous system increases your capacity to better manage pain, stress, challenge and healing
your whole self comes to therapy, no matter what body part is listed in the PT order and the whole is best to treat to address the part
you are currently receiving therapy within a system. these principles are radical to this system and may not be visible everywhere, let them live in you
we will learn about the body, learn tools and strategies, & discuss healing barriers so you can return to your life
i will do my best to show you involved layers and factors and help you connect the dots
your goals are based on your dreams and functions you are working toward that will enhance your life
you will do your best to stay curious about your part, committed to try strategies and hopeful about your recovery
there is a reason for your pain and/or dysfunction, even if we haven’t uncovered it yet and we may find solutions outside the box
consider the possibility that someday what you are experiencing today will be an asset to you and in the world
consider the ways you have already “made it” and consider the possibility that one day you will speak of this and say “I made it through”
the system’s beliefs:
insurance dictates whether the person has improved or not. if not, discharge them to get another person into the door
people will continue to attend therapy if you don’t cut them off, even when they are not getting lasting improvement
prevention, education, and improving capacity are not valid reasons to be engaged in therapy and taking up a PT slot
there is nothing worse than telling a patient that you don’t know, just come up with a reason and tell the patient
only treat what the order states is the main concern, the body can be separated and treated as parts
appropriate measures include ROM, strength, balance measures and questionaires around pain
psychosomatic issues means that there is nothing physical therapy can offer that patient
If progress takes longer than 6-12 weeks, it no longer counts as progress
most people heal in 6-8 weeks from anything insurance should cover
the therapist is there to serve the patient, at any cost to themselves
all patients are equal in terms of productivity, no matter their acuity
at some point, you are at a place where you can no longer recover
collaboration takes away from efficiency, which is the main goal
only big milestones and goals matter when measuring progress
support for a patient should be limited and highly regulated
do the impossible or very difficult and don’t ask us how
the goal is to see as many people as possible
some people will never get better
